This guide covers how to capture 360 photos using the Insta360 X4 camera while attached to a vehicle, enabling you to create a ‘Google Street View style’ virtual tour. Alongside capturing the images, we will also show how to record a GPX file to correctly geolocate the photos afterward.

Equipment Needed

Step 1: Setup the Insta360 X4 in Interval Mode

  1. Turn on the Camera: Power on the Insta360 X4.
  2. Select Interval Shooting Mode:
  3. Ensure Adequate Storage and Battery: Make sure your camera has enough storage and battery life for the trip. If required use an external power source if available.
  4. Mount the Camera: Securely attach the Insta360 X4 to the roof or another stable position on your vehicle. Ensure the camera has a clear, unobstructed 360-degree view. It is recommended to use the camera lens guards. Ensure the front lens is facing in your direction of travel. The front lens is on the opposite side of the screen.

Step 2: Use a GPS Tracker App to Record a GPX File

To accurately place your 360 images later, you need to record the GPS coordinates of your route. This needs to be in a GPX format which can be created in many different ways. The apps below are free.

Step 3: Start Your Capture Session

Capture each path or section as separate sessions.

  2. Start Interval Capturing on Insta360 Camera
  3. Drive the path or route

Step 4: End Your Capture Session

  1. Stop Interval Shooting: When you reach your destination or have completed the route, stop the interval shooting mode on the Insta360 X4 through the app.
